Hello, I'm Neil MacKinnon, Augusta University's Provost, the university's chief academic officer. And it's an honor to be among the first to welcome your family to campus. Like many of you today, I am sending my oldest daughter to college this fall. A few weeks ago, we sat down for the college chat, and discussed her overall approach to college. For our family, that includes enjoying life, working hard, and trusting our faith. Most importantly, it includes keeping academics as her first priority. This is an incredible time in Bria's life, and my wife and I want her to know that we are here to support her, and to help her succeed. That seemed like an easy conversation, affirming how we had raised her and offering her support. Then we helped her move to her new campus as an incoming freshman. Even though my wife and I were told what to expect by parents more experienced than us, I don't think anything could have completely prepared us for that moment. When I hugged her and said goodbye to her memories of Bria flashback from countless dance trips to our time living in Ohio. Had we invested enough time in her? Was she ready to leave? My wife, Leanne, and I know that this is one of those moments that we have to let go and trust Bria. I'm sure many of you are asking those questions and experiencing those emotions too. And I know what you're going through. I'm here to assure you that at Augusta University, you'll have plenty of support to stay connected, and we will ensure a great experience for your entire family. We know family support enhances student success. That's why if you have a student attending Augusta University, you're automatically a member of the Parent and Family Association to keep you informed and involved with the university and your students. And we will see you again on campus at the Parent and Family Weekend, October 7th to the 9th. As Augusta University's Provost, and a parent myself, I know these first few months can be a difficult transition. Please know that we will support you and your student at every step. Welcome to Jaguar nation! We're so glad you're here.
